Suggestive photo

by Andif. (You had to be there yesterday.) What it suggests to me is that there must be ghosts in them thar hills. She walks these hills in a long black veil. . .She visits my grave when the night winds wail. . .Nobody knows, nobody sees. . .Nobody knows but me.

You Tube: Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris

The most famous version is probably Johnny Cash's, but I love the combo of Dave's and Emmylou's voices. In case you're wondering, that song was written by Danny Dill
Marijohn Wilken in 1959.

Off to bed. See you when the sun comes up.

But, but ... you didn't use the real suggestive photo. :(

Since today is hump day, I have another suggestive photo. Oh what I am thinking ... clearly for you folks, this is a better choice.

Alas, we have created a reputation...

Too funny, andif. I like both pictures - although the first one suggests to me that I go back inside and curl up on the couch with (Sniff?)...

I always said if my hair would gray like Emmylou's, I wouldn't color it. What a great video - thanks for sharing, Nancy. DM started in Charlottesville, where I lived for a while last year, and he's a demi-god there. I don't know much of his stuff - but this is good.

Morning, everyone!

katiebird said...

I'm going to color my hair for the rest of my life.

Wow Andi --- THAT's a photograph! I'll have that in my mind all day.

Good Morning, Nancy & Andi & Beth and all my dear friends to come. I'll be mostly lurking through the email notices. ...

Morning Beth and kb.

Hey kb, I notice you didn't say which photograph you're going to be thinking about all day but depending on which one it is, I can make some predictions about your productivity. ;)

katiebird said...

Good catch, Andi -- I haven't followed your links yet (I'm still slogging away at E4T) so it's the one Nancy posted with the post. I LOVE it.

LOL katieb! I thought you were referring to the turtle photo ... :)

Good morning everyone. Finally getting a bit of breather ... This first full week back to the grind has been rough.

Hi, Olivia, Katie, Andi, and Beth!
The turtle photo cracks me up, Andi. Hump Day, indeed. You are too funny. But I really love the other one.

Beth I feel the same way about hair color. (I'm going to fetch another video for you.)

Olivia, do not grind down your poor little nose on that stone.

Has everybody been over to see Kb's sweet new look at her blog?

Nancy P said...

Beth, here's their duet that I love best. The sound quality is much better on this one, too.

Beth, don't mean to deluge you, and don't feel you have to look! But here's my fav of his solos. "Grace Is Gone." I don't know what he's done lately. Haven't kept up. But he's so cute and I LOVE his unique voice.

Hey, what's up? Besides turtles, anyway. I forgot to love on the foggy pond photo yesterday; I really do like scenes like that.

*** "David, I'd wait a little if I were you. Something about that mist spooks me."

"Ah, it's just water vapor. Look, I'm just gonna run to the jeep and siphon a little gas to get the fire going again." He waved the fuel canister, and the silence spoke of the emptiness within. "It's my fault I left the stove on last night. But we'll have some coffee going in a few."

We'd been married a year now; he knew I needed my coffee in the morning even if I preferred cold cereal for breakfast. And what of the mist? Water vapor, like Dave said. So why was I so nervous? It wasn't like he was going to leave me here on our first anniversary camping trip.

"All right," I sighed. "But get your butt back here ay-sap." I hugged him and whispered, "I know what we can do while we're waiting for the coffee to brew." I kissed his grinning mug, quick but hard, and he jogged down to the shoreline. He was in the kayak and halfway across the lake before I knew it.

The mist must have been thicker than it looked; he disappeared right into it. I waited for him to emerge and climb the bank on the other side… the way he'd been paddling, he should have been through it in seconds. But seconds stretched to minutes, and that spooky feeling came back like a freight train.

Enough was enough — I couldn't just sit here and wait for him to not come out. I grabbed the bag of energy bars and filled our water bottles, pocketing the filter pump almost as an afterthought. My own kayak was waiting for me, and so was the mist hanging on the other side of the pond. Dave was in trouble. I had to get to him. ***

The oyster stew is already starting to smell good, and it's only been going for half an hour. Lunch will be here before you know it!

Wow, Far, you really had my nerves on edge. That was great! David, come back!!!

katiebird said...

That story of FARs has me reeling, it's wonderful.

!!!! I can comment again: Someone fixed it!

katiebird said...

Now, I'm going to get in trouble....

:)

Morning Nancy, Andi, Beth, kb, and Far (and anyone who comes later).

Nancy - we have sun! There's a haze in the air so the sky isn't bright blue, but the sun is there.

I came into work determined to accomplish something today because I've been so distracted the last few days. But I'm not suceeding very well.

Especially now that I've seen Andi's suggestive turtles.

AndiF said...

Great story, Far (and so was Rick's yesterday).

I'm so happy to have be useful, no matter which picture distracts ... I mean ... inspires you (have a good day, Mary).

olivia said...

I'm invisible here ... :'(

Nancy P said...

Olivia, I saw you up above and said hi!! Honest! :) Btw, I love your photo today. Pink! Sort of.

::Pointing to Olivia::

Nancy P said...

The Kansas City Grump--that would be me--says to enjoy that sun while you have it, Mb, cause it won't be there for long. We had snow flakes the day after. Bah humbug.

I so need to go cold turkey on reading about politic for awhile. Yeah, right.

Larry Kollar said...

Thanks for the kind words, y'all.

To continue: they're together, but… elsewhere. Steal the story and finish it, please!

Larry Kollar said...

OMG. She went into the mist called "Dave?"

And she heard him call back… wait for it…

"Nancy?"

katiebird said...

{{{shiver}}}

OMG....

Nancy P said...

Lol!! That'll be Mist-er Dave to you.

Larry Kollar said...

OW! OW! OW!!!!

Good one!

Boy, that's TWO days in a row I didn't click the comments box. Here I thought everyone was asleep, when it was just me being daft!!

I was fine with turning gray til I saw a picture of myself once I colored it - JEEZ did I look old! Of course maybe that was the husband... :-)

I'm with kb, coloring forever.

I missed the Hump Day comment, andi - way too funny. Duh!

Good story, Far! How do you do that so fast?

I wondered where you were, O. Hope the grindstone softens the rest of the week.

Waving at everyone, WAY late to the party!

Anonymous said...

Oops, and thanks for the links, Nancy. I didn't realize how attractive he is til I watched them. NO WONDER hoards of screaming girls swoon over him.

No, I didn't mean you. :-)

I think I will become a fan - better late than never...

Larry Kollar said...

Hey Beth (and everyone else, especially {{{Olivia}}}, who's feeling neglected)!

I think the germ of the idea came when I saw the picture yesterday. But then it all just blew in at once, like an email from the Great Beyond. That's how I end up starting a *lot* of stories.

Grey hair… like mine, I suppose. I got a box of black hair color as a gag gift for Father's Day; I'm saving it for if/when I have to look for a job.

Anyway, after a brief walk around the building (knee aches but no more than before), the story also has legs. I'm going to pick it up & see where it goes.

Nancy P said...

I don't know if you'll stick with him, Beth, but he is definitely fangirl material, and some of his songs are great.

Far, Olga does email?

Larry Kollar said...

Nancy, Olga does whatever she wants. :-)

AndiF said...

Wait, I thought going gray was going to finally move me into a better class of geezerhood.

Oh olivia, hi! I almost didn't see you, hiding behind the snowdrifted bbq.

Anonymous said...

You're already with the classiest geezers (and non-geezers) around, andi! Now, who wants to claim membership in which group? :-)

We know Rick joined the geezers Monday - or some level of geezerdom, anyway.

If only he'd have shared his cake...

Anonymous said...

BTW, Nancy, I just bought Grace is Gone from iTunes. Fine way to start my DM collection! (I have a couple of his already, but was looking for recommendations.) Thanks!

Nancy P said...

far, :) Whatever Olga wants, Olga gets.

Beth, it's an addictive song, isn't it?

Andi, lol! I hope Olivia stops back by to see how visible she has become. Must be that Cardinal on her head.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see Olivia? That's because she uses that fairy dust to make herself really, really tiny so she can take pictures of teeny tiny flowers that look HUGE. How can I be expected to see her?

Hi O!

I have been SO unproductive today. So I'm gonna go see a movie tonight. The new Denzel Washington movie.

Larry Kollar said...

Maryb, I can relate. I'm supposed to be working. Instead, I've written close to 4000 words of fiction.

Anonymous said...

That's GREAT, far!! Some of us considering writing 4000 words a very full day of work! :-)

I think it's the perfect way to spend a day.

boran2 said...

Hi all. That is a funky photo. Ghosts could be right, Nancy. (I'm hearing that Twilight Zone theme in my head. Yes, I'm now that old.)

Larry Kollar said...

Beth: if only I could knock that much verbiage out when I *wanted* to!

Anonymous said...

Guess Olga marches to her own drummer, huh? Or does she march to some kind of BDSM beat....? Why do I picture her in tight black leather, thigh-high boots, blonde crew cut - and chains? :-)

katiebird said...

It was so fun to read the comments today. You guys are so funny.

FAR, I'm totally impressed at your writing prowess.

Nancy P said...

far, you are a mad word machine!

Maryb, did you like the movie?

:( Olivia hasn't come over to see herself being seen.

Larry Kollar said...

Beth, that's exactly how I picture Olga. Except she has a bullwhip instead of chains.

KB, thanks. I finished the mist story just now, and that added another thousand to the word count. Now maybe Olga will let me sleep.

A 5K day. I sure hope it does me some good down the road. :-P

Nancy P said...

b2 closes out the evening. Time to gather up the empty glasses, sweep the floor, and switch off the neon signs.

Last person to go. . . leave some milk in a bowl for the cat.

Anonymous said...

I enjoyed the movie tonight. Very powerful. Could have been about 15 minutes shorter - but I think all Oprah produced movies seem to end up slightly too long. I recommend it.

So do we think the Oscars will get cancelled because of the writers strike like the Golden Globes were?

katiebird said...

MaryB, we'll have to come up with SOMETHING if they are cancelled. Maybe make it up ourselves.

Mary did you put something out for the cat? I don't feed cats.

katiebird said...

Oh, and FAR -- Wow & Wow. Are we going to get to read any of it?

Larry Kollar said...

I'll get the milk.

KB, I'll send you a copy after I've gone over it and cleaned it up a bit. I hope it'll be this weekend.

katiebird said...

!! Great! I can't wait.

(yawning)

katiebird said...

Nancy, I think I've visited & commented on every blog in your blog roll tonight.

It's my resolution to do this every evening. I've been visiting, but been way to quiet. I keep forgetting that no one knows I'm there if I don't speak up.

Thanks for putting together a great list.

Nancy P said...

I liked it, too, Maryb. I can hardly imagine how much courage it took for black kids to be the first to debate at a fancy white school. (I think the actual one was UCLA. One of the California schools anyway, not Harvard. Which makes no diff. in terms of the courage it took.) I was thinking all the way through, "Is that THE James Farmer?"

Nancy P said...

That's cool, kb. I'm missing a couple of newer people on my blog list, I think.
